Between the margins # 2023
Crises of all kinds make visible the more or less defined limits of our lives. It is essential to try to see them not as contrary and absolute dichotomies, nor as lessons of salvation or resignation, where our margin of adaptation or transgression is questioned, but as common “window-frames”, adjustable and conducive to learning to think about other conditions of life. and coexistence. Beyond what we are, we can see and we believe we understand, there are intermediate spaces to explore, far from what is given, which precisely require a greater effort of attention and action. The project Between the margins speaks from there and also about doubt, error or interruption as a sensitive and fertile substance for thought and creative action.

Croma # 2022
Croma #2022
Croma could be seen as something tangible with no further definition tan a possible ‘artist’s book’, or more specifically, a visual essay on human colour perception from a pictorial outlook.
The painting Croma is the origin of the idea and it is reproduced in the first place on an independent piece that opens up, like the pages of a book. It also transits between the succession of visual experiences, actions and processes of experimentations gathered in another volume. A series of notes as a field notebook are gathered at the end.
The idea is completed with a simple sensorial experience through two external elements: a red filter inserted between the pages extracts the experience, and a thin cotton veil protects it.

Another life in Red #2022
The importance of making visible and conscious a more affective relationship with our world is the main purpose of the project Another life in Red. Using paint, Another life in Red displays a series of elements whose common denominator is the color red and weaves with it a network of essential ideas and relationships that generally go unnoticed but, nevertheless, have greater value than those networks that define our present. Another life in Red speaks of an ectopic human world that underlies appearances and yet sustains us as social beings. This proposal materializes from the metaphor, the need to face the difficulties of our time through mutual support.See the video of the project. Casa de Velazquez

48 Conscious pariahs # 2020
48 Conscious Pariahs # 2020
I can, therefore I am; I rebel therefore we are. Two quotes in one phrase; Simone Weil and Albert Camus, respectively, reveal the meaning of these anonymous faces of human dignity. The first 13 portraits of this series still in progress appeared at the end of the exhibition Beings Out of Range (Seres fuera de campo), an unfinished (incomplete) conclusion open to a new beginning. My painting advances recovering previous works. In this specific case, stemming from Hannah Arendt and her singular concept of the ‘conscious pariah’. It dares to review, as a quote or a margin note, the meaning of the German painter, Gerhard Richter’s 48 portraits of notable people, which was also subject of study in his day. The quote means to waken this work from its ideological and historical lethargy, replacing certain absences in a critical manner, to evidence this other knowledge, displaced because it was inconvenient, that has unfortunately left no trace in the encyclopaedias and does, however, exist.Exhibition virtual tour

Beings Out of Range # 2019
Red, emblem of thoughts embodied is the cleft that opens the glance to what is not perceived, out of range. Becoming aware of Simone Weil connects with our previous exhibitions in which Hannah Arendt and María Zambrano gave words to the paintings. The three philosophers are, in this polyphony atuned with the artist and also with the paintings, and they are embodied out of place, together with other movements in which the purpose is the commitment for a world held in common.Exhibition virtual tour

Beyond the rubble # 2019
Beyond the Rubble # 2019
Facing the general question of who am I or who are we and what are we doing in this world, arises the inevitable need of being portrayed as a painter in the paintings. To be a woman in the creative world, to be an author, philosopher, actress, or, in my case, a painter, supposes interpreting the world in another manner, having had less references and greater difficulties. Seeing oneself as borderline generates different questions, contents and a different manner of telling. Painting can be the expression of a creative action; a pulse of existence, using experiences, observed or suffered, extracted from the flow of time that makes inventing an exit beyond the rubble possible. This set of self portraits, within the project Beings Out of Range, resumes the figure of the Elephant Woman and uses the pillow, among other metaphors, for that which burdens us, of which we must let go to be able to see and recognise ourselves and advance: beyond the rubble all is yet to be done. The painter represents painting itself; the one that sees and is seen at the same time, appearing before a white canvas amidst darkness, clothed in a red work overall. The painter evolves along the series of scenes transforming from the skin, surface, of the painting into that of her true protagonists, another set of ‘conscious pariahs’ that embody the same question.Exhibition virtual tour

The Fire and the Word # 2017-2015
Painting in this exhibition shines a light on the voice of Hannah Arendt, one of the most lucid intellectuals of our recent history, who had the capacity to understand the atrocities of her time and the courage to tell them, as they were happening. Her vision, critical, activist and hopeful, was at the same time rejected for being inconvenient in a society formed upon defective foundations. Understanding her influence in my work meant understanding the action of painting as an exercise in critical and creative thinking or also as a satellite in the utopic need to explain the unexplainable and of daring to consider the world in conflict from her idea of amor mundi(love of the world).

The neologism Ecocides defines deteriorating natural resources and environment as a consequence of direct or indirect action of mankind. There are many examples of the destructive consequences that our toxic life style has imposed not only on ecosystems but also on our society, endangering sustainable life and social coexistence on the planet. This series of circles is underlaid by warning signals in the voice of Mother Earth manifesting her discomfort. Six sentences, one painted for each paintings, both distinguish and articulate the problem.
Me ahogo. Hace frio. Tengo sed. Sufro. Muerdo. Muero.

An important part of my painting stems from the similarities and influences of the philosopher María Zambrano’s poetic reason, more than from a specific thought, a system of thought arising from that privileged place in which the glance comes to rest . A marginal and seminal system that contributes emotion to the philosophic discourse and that, beyond the logical reflections, becomes important if what we are aiming for is awareness of the value of what is fragile, which defines us as sensible and vulnerable beings. An essential knowledge to intervene in our present in the best manner.

It does not matter if you paint holding the brush in your mouth of with your left hand to express a common thought: among all of us we know everything. This idea shared with the painter Javi Planells shows how painting is a medium for possible visibility, in which reality can be shown in different manner, and breathe. To make visible and to be visible is, in this case, the same. Painting has granted us both the opportunity of giving value to existence and sharing it: poppy red expresses that simple truth and speaks of the awareness acquired from the experience of colour and friendship.
