Mery Sales

Valencia 1970. Artista visual e investigadora. Su pintura, velando, revela una especie de pensamiento encarnado cuya intención es despertar la conciencia. Sus últimos trabajos, 48 parias conscientes, seres fuera de campo y tras los escombros, surgen a partir del pensamiento de tres filósofas: María Zambrano, Hannah Arendt y Simone Weil.

Veiling, my painting reveals. In its course it has found a different manner of reasoning stemming from decisive references and elusive concepts of a tangible presence. Each of the temporal sequences, of high narrative and symbolic content, has strengthened its commitment with a certain type of writing where the succession of images has found a red thread in time. A kind of embodied thought with the intention to awaken conscience favouring sensorial and emotional meetings in the world to which we belong with its beauty and its conflict. A double grid which, throughout the years, has distinguished itself as an immense and reversible net of what is sensitive. Iconic, plastic and conceptual features are the change of scale, out of focus and out of range and the different compositive tensions, overlapping of outlines and shapes, the free use of light, colour or stain; simultaneous double vision, figurative and abstract; stylistic diversity in the content of each project; multiple readings and textual references, reinterpretation of classic genres such as landscape and portrait. Concerning genres but in another sense, also a new reading of my own painting devoid of the masculine tradition perspective. My painting continues to evolve, from time to time, as a constant movement of closeness and distance with itself and, beyond its margins, in intimate relationship with other gazes. Mi pintura, velando, revela. En su devenir ha ido encontrando un modo de razonar diferente a partir de referentes decisivos y conceptos esquivos de una presencia tangible. Cada una de las secuencias temporales, de alto contenido narrativo y simbólico, ha ido estrechando su compromiso con cierto tipo de escritura donde la sucesión de imágenes va encontrando un hilo rojo en el tiempo. Una especie de pensamiento encarnado cuya intención es despertar la conciencia favoreciendo encuentros sensoriales y emocionales con el mundo al que pertenecemos, con su belleza y su conflicto. Una doble trama que, a lo largo de los años, se distingue como una inmensa red reversible desde lo sensible. Las características icónicas, plásticas y conceptuales son el cambio de escala, el fuera de foco y de campo y las diversas tensiones compositivas; las superposiciones de contornos y formas; el uso libre de la luz, el color o la mancha; la doble visión simultánea: figurativa y abstracta; la diversidad estilística en el contenido de cada proyecto; las múltiples lecturas y referencias textuales, y la reinterpretación de los géneros clásicos como el retrato o el paisaje.
